Inspecting your bucket truck is critical in keeping your unit in peak condition. Inspection begins with a visual assessment of your unit for cracks and general wear and tear, and should cover every point on the unit including filter changes and lubrication. When inspecting your bucket truck, here is a list of specific things to check for:
- Check tires to make sure they are properly inflated, with no rips, bulges and weakening treads.
- Look underneath the truck and inspect the boom apparatus for fluid leaks, etc.
- Make sure welds and hydraulic functions are sound.
- Ensure lights are working fine.
- Check to make sure there are no loose or missing parts.
- In the case that any anomaly is found during daily inspection, report immediately to your supervisor.
Always keep in mind that government regulations require the equipment owner/operator to perform both daily and monthly equipment inspections and maintain the results of those inspections for each bucket truck. Daily and weekly inspections should be performed by the individual operator, while monthly inspections will need to be completed by the personnel that is responsible for the overall maintenance and service of the bucket truck. Periodic inspections are thorough inspections done at least every three months and include all items listed. OSHA also requires that signed and dated records of these are properly maintained and archived. An annual inspection is to be performed by a government or private agency that has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, as well.
